The Cambridge Union, the oldest debating society in the world and the largest society in Cambridge, is a central hub for the free exchange of ideas and the art of public debate. It has historically hosted notable figures such as Winston Churchill and the Dalai Lama, providing Cambridge students with unique opportunities to meet and question world-shaping individuals. The society’s most anticipated events are the Thursday night debates, where topics range from the future of healthcare to the limits of free speech, featuring speakers from various sectors alongside student participants.
Additionally, the Union holds keynote speaker events twice a week, attracting a wide array of speakers for interviews and audience Q&As, with past guests including Robert De Niro and Nancy Pelosi. These events offer personal interaction opportunities, often concluding with audience members meeting the speakers.
Century members are now welcome to enjoy access to all club facilities as well as participate in these talks and debates. For access, Century members should email the Century membership team to request a letter of introduction. The Union’s premises include The Orator, a recently refurbished bar and restaurant, located in a historic Waterhouse building set back from the road behind the famous Round Church, featuring a secluded garden leading to the main entrance.
Century membership not only includes access to our club in Soho, but also opens doors to over 50 clubs around the world.
