Join Century member and registered mindfulness teacher Nick Hammond for a three-part introduction to mindfulness. Through three weekly sessions of 60–75 minutes, Nick will guide you through practical techniques and reflections that awaken us from autopilot, anchor us in the body, and help integrate mindfulness into daily routines. With a down-to-earth approach and real-world examples, this course is designed to be accessible, grounding, and quietly transformative.
Timing – Three sessions. 60-75 minutes each starting at 6:30 pm on the following dates – Wednesday 1st October, Wednesday 8th October & Wednesday 15th October
Areas covered –
Week 1) Waking up to the Autopilot
Mindfulness starts when we recognise the tendency to be on automatic pilot, and the
cost that this can have for our well-being and our relationships. Waking up to this can
fuel a commitment to learning how best to step out of autopilot, in order to become
more fully alive in each moment.
Week 2) Keeping the body in mind
Investigating the body as a great ally and refuge in not being carried away by troubling thoughts and understanding, the foundation of all mindfulness training is the cultivation of sensed body awareness.
Week 3) Mindfulness in daily life.
Deliberately practising being present in the midst of activity – staying connected with the sensations of the body, feeling the breathing, noticing states of mind and thoughts or impulses that may be strongly present – these are ways of bringing mindfulness and wakefulness into the midst of daily life.
Outcomes –
• Understanding of the mindfulness process
• Appreciation of the relationship between cognitive and experiential processes and how to apply in everyday life
• Guidance on how to proceed, to support mindful behaviours moving forward
